When we met Kat Chaplin she was not part of a non profit group -- so we offered to sponsor a non-profit Ahimsa so she would have a non-profit base... we offered a room for Ahimsa to meet in and work in, we provide the postage free, mailing service free, give monetary donations and help get her Kat Kits out, etc... full mail and secretary service. So you can say we are company sponsors and benefactors .... the India connection is us personally we do not take any money out of Ahimsa. All Ahimsa donations are used for charity spay neuters, s/n education, attendance at conferences, all work costs related to domestic spay neuter advertising, sponsorship, and education. The money for the India projects come from Rati and Bonny Shah (us) personally, but we very willingly consider it part of our Ahimsa work as it is good pr in the Indian community for all Ahimsa work both here in the U.S.A. and in India. My husband and I work with two charities in India where we are personally involved with and contribute money. First: the S.S. Mandal School in the state of Maharasthra in southern India - our work started many years ago there sponsoring poor and orphaned children. Sponsoring their education, and getting friends and customers to do the same. The last three years we have started connecting helping children help animals as a educational vehicle for not only the children at this rural school in India but as a tool to show compassion for animals in the thirty villages surrounding the village. We had provided a clinic for the school kids, they had no med. facility at all, and then later donated the money to run a sterilization clinic for men and women and family planning clinic. Three years ago we decided to start an animal sterilization clinic at the school. The kids cared for and fed strays coming into the school from the villages. Rural children usually unlike city children have a great love of animals - raised with them ... but there were no meds etc for the dogs ... Now, their own school dogs and these strays (about 100 wander in and out from the villages onto the school campus) are being sterilized and getting preventive disease shots and meds. Two years ago, a chance to buy 7 acres attached to the school came up, we personally purchased that acreage and started helping the school learn about the care of donkeys ... again, this project is in the infant stages , we have paid for planting natural brush fencing, drilling water wells, etc. but we still need to fund the vet shelter and hut for the vet and watchman .. we have spent our own money and now want to raise the money needed to finish the shelters and for the annual maintenance costs ... we personally purchased 500 limited copies (we have the only ones) of Maneka Gandhi's book and for a 15.00 donation (this is divided between three charities - ) we hope to raise funds. Our second project is Helping People for Animals, Bombay branch, headed by Rita Vazirani. She daily works on street dogs, feeding them ( nightly she feeds 100 and takes care of their meds), sterilizing them, etc. She has volunteers all over Bombay doing the same thing. She spends her days in court fighting the municipality of Bombay who wants to put all street dogs to death and her nights feeding and caring for her local group of street dogs. We help her personally fund sterilization and meds for the dogs also carry hotel soaps, freebies people donate such as hotel shampoos, matches, t shirts, etc. Money is used again for sterilization and some is given to poor people who volunteer to help take care of these dogs. My husband goes to India every three months for a month and is actively involved. We both go the months of June and Dec. We go in person to the school and work with Rita in the Bombay area ... Please write or call us for sponsorship programs, we will be happy to discuss and give you any information about the school. Your sponsorship and patronage will go a long way in helping kids to better their lives with a good education and a better upbringing.
